Welcome aboard students to the Dynamic Revolver Inter Launcher Live also known as the DRILL, a vehicle built by NASA. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, will be to travel in the DRILL to the center of the earth. You will be traveling and working together in groups to record your findings and observations about the different layers of the earth.

Once you have gathered all your research you will post it on our class Wiki. You MUST include 3 photos or images and 8 facts. Follow all the directions below to help you on your journey.

  • You will see many graphic organizers to write down facts about the earth you learn from the video, interactive games, or on the websites.
  • Click on the cluster/word web 3 (1st one in the 3rd column)
  • Print out the cluster/word web
  • Each group member needs to have their own copy

You will need to use all the information below to complete your project.

Click on play tab to start the video "Earth."


2. Go to the following information websites and read.

  • Click on the two links below to learn and explore what our world is made of.

3. Go to Maggie's Earth Adventures interactive site

  • Click play now under the science labeling category in the center of the page. (a new window will appear)

  • Read the directions on the screen and keep clicking the arrow until you get to the last screen that is titled Science Labeling.

  • Then click on Layers of the earth to go to the game. Good Luck!


4. Quiz yourself

Click on the link below to test your knowledge on the earth.

5. Look for images on ...........

  • Save the images to your computer. You will need them to add to the Wiki.

6. Post all the images and important facts you found on your journey.

How to add information to the Wiki

  • Once you are on the Rodriguez-Earth Wikispace, each group will have their group numbers on the left side of the page.
  • Click on your group number.
  • Click on the Edit tab on the top right corner.
  • You can begin adding the information from your group's word webs by typing in the box.
  • You may also search for other layers of the earth web sites to find information. Be sure to copy the URL of the site so that you can reference it in the Wiki.
  • Don’t forget to save.

How to upload photos


  • To insert photos on click on the File tab on the edit draft toolbar.
  • A box will appear on your screen click on upload on the right side of the box.
  • Another box will appear, click on my pictures.
  • Your saved pictures should be on the screen, search for the picture you want highlight and click insert. The screen will disappear.
  • Your image will appear on the wiki images and file screen.
  • Double click on your picture, and it will appear on your Wiki page.
  • Be sure to save your changes.

*Remember to upload at least 3 pictures or images and at least 8 facts.


6. Post a comment on at least one of the other groups wikispace page under the Discussion tab.
